Let’s take wearable technology one step further with the exoskeleton. Exoskeletons are wearable devices that help to augment a person’s movement for varying reasons from lifting, carrying, walking, skiing, sitting, therapy, and many more applications. It is apparent that exoskeletons are the wave of the future and will continue to evolve into other areas of human life, which, as of now, includes dancing.
An excellent form of expression, dance is ever-evolving to suit the current trends in music and society. With wearable technology being all the rage, it is not surprising that it is now being incorporated into a new form of dance, most recently industrial trance music. As seen at the Silicon Valley’s Gray Area Festival in July of 2019, dancers wearing exoskeletons showed the next evolution in dance. The exoskeletons were programmed and choreographed to the music, and the exoskeletons controlled the movement of the dancers. This unique and intriguing new form of dance was like watching living puppets and was an exceptional performance to view.
Personal Light Show
Individuals have been using glow sticks for years to enhance the experience in clubs through bright, colorful lights on the dark dance floor. Now, with this new exoskeleton technology, it is taking the experience one step further with a wirelessly-controlled light suit inside of the exoskeleton that the dancer can create their personalized light show. The exoskeleton works with the beat of the music creating an amazing individualized dance experience.
There is no doubt that advances in technology have given a new way to advance the human experience. The exoskeleton is now providing humans with a new way to move and light up the dance floor. Great news for the individuals with less than par dance skills, and for those who want to experience a new form of dance. We will undoubtedly be seeing more exoskeletons hitting the dance floor in the future.
